Life with MS, seeking a cure

Friday, November 10, 2006

I so hate this disease, I can't tell you how much.

Today was a day from hell, sorta. I got up early and went directly to the shower, thought I was doing so good. Then I got out, I usually sit on the toilet, rest and get dressed and then go to my recliner. Today, I thought I would try to get out of the shower, NOT REST, and go directly to my recliner. BAD IDEA. I got about two feet from the recliner was turning around and my feet got totally fatigued, wouldn't move for nothing. BOOM, I went down. All I could think is crap, I can't break anything I don't have insurance. I landed and was dizzy and just rested while I cooled down. My cats all kept me company. After 30 minutes of relaxing naked on the floor I did the 911. They were here soon and again I worship these paramedics. So professional to the disabled and naked. They got me to my recliner. I am just a little stiff and ackey tonight. I didn't even cry today, usually I do just from the embarrassment, today, nothing. I'm getting used to it I guess. Still VERY frustrating.

I talked to David yesterday, he doesn't sound to excited about when if ever I'll get his drug. Makes me wonder but I still believe in him. There are a lot of new drugs soon to come out. I'm going to try them all.

I've had a horrible time trying to post here and I miss my ole buddy Michael, where did you go?
Love
Karyl

And what did you learn from that incident?

Use lukewarm to cold water for the shower (its good for the skin too.)

Keep a robe hanging on the door of the bathroom. (Its good for your dignity. :-)

Go from hand-hold to hand-hold. NEVER launch yourself into an open area without supports real or potential. (On good days I don't touch them; on bad days, I'm holding on honey...)

Hey there Karyl! You need to take care of yourself. I need you to be good and healthy for the Colts/Broncos re-match during the playoffs!

Now I just want you to take it easy. I do like how you handled yourself. That's an inspiration to me. I'm thankful for each day regardless of the struggles.

Keep me posted on what's going on in your life. We both have been lazy about updating our blogs. A lot has been going on in my life. I'll post later today.

Michael

Thanks Charles for your suggestions. I always use cool water for my shower. If I wore a robe I would overheat for sure. I've got no modesty issues left at this point. As far as hand hold to hand hold, I use a walker and I hold on tight. My feet simply stopped and I had no place to land but the floor. Just one of those things. Paramedics suggested I get a lock box on the house in case I am home alone so they can get in. My husband went out this morning and the key is outside for the next spill.

I thought I lost you. Your blog is gone from the MS board?? I look forward to the rematch. Manning is unstopable, incredible QB. I do like him, his commercials crack me up. I think he deserves one of those huge rings. Gotta back my Broncos though. We can get the lead but its hanging on for the win where we fail. Next time.

Hi,
I just found you through Charles. I am sorry to hear of your fall. I hate when that happens! No warning and you just go down. I hope that you are doing better. Take care.

Karyl - It looks like my blog link was pulled since I had a bad reaction to Tysabri. They would probably prefer to stay away from the negative attention. That's too bad because I'm very pro Tysabri. Here's my link:

Karyl ... WOW! Take care of yourself there. Don't want to find you in the newspapers where we find that your cats have eaten one of your legs after they got hungry! Do you keep a wireless phone with you for such situations? And you know what, perhaps you could talk your hubby into installing some hand-rails about the hallways. I know this was a unique incident, but it pays to be prepared.

Hi there
Yep, I've got a phone with me most the time, its on my walker which I never let go of. There are no halls between bathroom and bedroom, most of the first floor is open for me to roll through and in the bedroom its just a door the seperates the two rooms. There is plenty to hold on to but the walker is the only thing I use, til my feet get tangled and tired, then its look out floor here I come. I will rest after my showers from now on, I promise.
